Stop Having the Same Fight
What You’ll Get From This Class
Relationships don’t usually struggle because people don’t care about each other. They struggle because couples get caught in patterns they don’t know how to change. The same argument happens again. One person gets defensive, the other gets frustrated. Someone shuts down, pursues, criticizes, withdraws, or says something they later regret.
This 90-minute live relationship skills class is designed to help you understand those patterns and give you practical tools for responding differently.
Using principles from Relational Life Therapy (RLT), you’ll learn how your past experiences and protective strategies can show up in your relationship today—and, more importantly, what you can do about them.
During the class, participants will learn how to:
Recognize the relationship patterns that keep you stuck, including criticism, defensiveness, withdrawal, controlling behavior, people-pleasing, resentment, and emotional shutdown.
Understand your triggers and recognize when your Adaptive Child is taking over the conversation.
Regulate yourself before reacting so that frustration doesn't automatically turn into an argument.
Step into your Wise Adult and respond to your partner from the person you want to be rather than from old protective patterns.
Communicate difficult feelings without attacking, blaming, or shaming your partner.
Listen without immediately becoming defensive or trying to prove that your partner is wrong.
Identify the "losing strategies" that may be damaging connection even when you believe you're trying to solve the problem.
Make clear requests instead of complaints so your partner has a better chance of understanding what you actually need.
Use healthy boundaries without threatening, controlling, withdrawing, or walking on eggshells.
Take an effective timeout when conversations become too heated—and know how to come back and finish the conversation.
Repair after conflict rather than allowing arguments, hurt feelings, and resentment to accumulate.
Create more accountability in your relationship by focusing on what you can change rather than waiting for your partner to change first.
Replace old relationship habits with practical skills you can begin using immediately.
This Isn't About Having a Perfect Relationship
The goal isn't to eliminate disagreement. Healthy couples disagree.
The goal is to learn how to disagree without damaging the relationship.
You don't need to stop getting triggered. You need to learn what to do when you are triggered.
You don't need your partner to agree with everything you say. You need to learn how to tell the truth with compassion, listen with curiosity, maintain healthy boundaries, and repair when things go wrong.
You'll Leave With More Than Information
This is not simply a lecture about relationships. Participants will be introduced to specific tools and exercises that can be practiced at home.
By the end of the 90 minutes, the goal is for you to leave with a clearer understanding of:
What's happening between us?
Why do we keep getting stuck here?
What part am I playing in the pattern?
What can I do differently the next time it happens?
And perhaps most importantly:
How do we get back on the same team?
You can attend with your partner or on your own. You don't need your partner's participation to begin changing how you show up in your relationship.
